Marshall, Mo. (August 11, 2014)- The Missouri Valley College football team will enter the 2014 season ranked No. 7 in the NAIA Football Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll, which was released Monday.

The Vikings were ranked No. 7 to end the 2013 season and stayed in the same spot in the spring coaches’ poll which came out in April.  The preseason ranking means MVC has now been ranked in 104 consecutive coaches' polls, the third longest active streak in the NAIA. The Vikings are coming off a 2013 season which saw the team finish with a 9-3 record, win its third-straight Heart of America Athletic Conference regular season championship, appear in a third-straight NAIA Football Championship Series and advance to the NAIA Football Championship Series.

Last week the Vikings were picked as the top team in the 2014 Heart of America Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll, receiving six of the eligible nine first place votes in the process.  The Vikings finished with one more voting point than Baker University to claim the top spot in the poll. Three other HAAC schools are ranked in the NAIA Football Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll, which includes Baker University at No. 5, Benedictine College at No. 11 and Peru State College at No. 24.  Also ranked is MVC’s non-conference opponent Tabor (Kan.) College which will enter the season at No. 8. The No. 7 Vikings will host No. 8 Tabor in the HAAC/KCAC Challenge Sept. 13 at Gregg-Mitchell Field.  Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 6 p.m., and coincides with Parents Day on the Missouri Valley campus.

Also, the Vikings will play in the first NAIA Gridiron Challenge at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., Oct. 11 at 3 p.m., against MidAmerica Nazarene University.  Tickets for the game can be purchased through the Alumni Relations Office at 660-831-4006 during regular business hours.  For more information on the game, go to www.moval.edu
