MVC Track and Field Competes in Day Two of National MeetPosted May 23, 2014
Marshall, Mo. (May 23, 2014)- The Missouri Valley College outdoor track and field programs continued competition at the 2014 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship in Gulf Shores, Ala. The National meet began Thursday and lasts through Saturday.
Both Senior Ignacio Franco (Cadiz, Spain) and Freshman Spencer Head (Camas, Wash.) both competed in the 800 meter prelims. Franco finished with a time of 1:55.32 and Head finished in 2:13.58, however neither qualified for the event finals.
Also, Junior Andrew Longboy (Mililani, Hawaii) competed in the high jump but did not finish with a height reached.
One Viking competed at the National meet Thursday as Freshman Phillip Cheruiyot (Nairobi, Kenya) ran in the 10000 meter run. Cheruiyot finished the race in seventh place in a time of 31:14.35. Cheruiyot earned All-American status with his finish in the 10000 meter race.
Both Cheruiyot and Freshman Nate Martin (Jackson, Mo.) compete in the marathon and Senior Byron Evans (Chicago, Ill.) will compete in the triple jump Saturday.
Junior Sarah Niemeier will represent the MVC women’s team at the National meet as she will compete at 6 a.m., Saturday in the marathon.
