Marshall, Mo. (May 21, 2014)- The No. 7 Missouri Valley College football team will be represented in an international football tournament in July as Freshman Safety Chandler Houtman (Owasso, Okla.) has been selected to the USA Football Under-19 team.

Houtman is one of 45 players on the team that will represent the United States at the 2014 International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Under-19 World Championship in Kuwait City, Kuwait, July 7-16.  The World Championship will be an eight-team tournament featuring teams from the U.S.A., Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Kuwait and Mexico.

"I was beyond excited when I learned of my selection to the National team," said Houtman.  "This is an unbelievable opportunity to not only represent Missouri Valley, but the entire country on an international stage."

Houtman will join the rest of his team for a training camp June 25-July 1 at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va., before departing for Kuwait on July 2.  The US will play three games in pool play beginning with a game on July 8 against Mexico, followed by a game July 11 against Germany with the final pool game played July 13 against Japan.  The winners of both pools will play in the gold medal game on July 16.

"This is an awesome opportunity for Chandler to play on a stage like this," said Missouri Valley College Head Football Coach Paul Troth.  "This will be a first-class experience for Chandler and everyone at Missouri Valley is excited for him." USA Football is based out of Indianapolis, Ind., and is the sport's National governing body, leading the game's development for youth, high school and other amateur football players and is a nonprofit organization.

Houtman finished with 5.5 tackles and one pass break-up in helping Team USA to the Gold Medal.  Team USA defeated Mexico in its opening game 49-14 then knocked off Germany in the second game of pool play with a 54-0 victory.  Team USA locked up first place in the pool with a 43-0 win over Japan and won the gold in a 40-17 win over Canada
