Phillip Cheruiyot Leads MVC Track and Field Teams at HAAC Meet

Marshall, Mo. (May 3, 2014)- The Missouri Valley College outdoor track and field programs finished competing at the Heart of America Athletic Conference meet Saturday at Benedictine College.  The men’s team took third and the women’s team placed third.  Freshman Phillip Cheruiyot (Nairobi, Kenya) led the Vikings by winning three events.

 

Men’s Point Scorers:

Senior Tyler Davis (St. Louis, Mo.) placed No. 3 in the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.11 seconds.  He also placed No. 5 in the high jump with a height of 1.93 meters.  Davis also placed No. four in the long jump with a distance of 6.72 meters.  He also took second in the triple jump with a distance of 14.06 meters.

 

Junior Kenneth Kipng’etich (Nairobi, Kenya) placed No. 6 in the 400 meter dash in a time of 50.44 seconds.

 

Senior Ignacio Franco (Cadiz, Spain) won the 800 meter run in a time of 1:57.13.

 

Freshman Spencer Head (Camas, Wash.) placed second in the 800 meter run in a time of 1:57.41.  In the 3000 meter steeplechase Head placed second in a time of 10:13.61.

 

Freshman Phillip Cheruiyot (Nairobi, Kenya) won all three of the long-distance races claiming the 1500 meter run in a time of 4:08.91, the 5000 meter run in a time of 15:44.35 and the 10000 meter run in a time of 33:12.66.

 

Freshman Alexis Barbry placed No. 4 in the 1500 meter run in a time of 4:13.72 seconds.

 

Freshman Joel Lueck (Lexington, Mo.) placed No. 7 in the 1500 meter run in a time of 4:19.20.

 

Markell Strickland placed second in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 15.21 seconds.  He also placed No. 4 in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 57.09 seconds.  Strickland also placed No. 8 in the triple jump with a distance of 13.085 meters.

 

Freshman Will Lee (Strafford, Mo.) placed No. 6 in the 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 10:37.70.

 

Freshman Dakota Harris (California, Mo.) placed third in the 5000 meter race-walk in a time of 29:13.51.

 

The 4x100 relay team placed third in a time of 42.92 seconds.

 

The 4x400 meter relay team placed No. 6 in a time of 3:28.99.

 

The 4x800 meter relay team won the event in a time of 7:58.24.

 

Junior Andrew Longboy (Mililani, Hawaii) placed third in the high jump with a height of 1.98 meters.  He also palced No. 8 in the javelin with a distance of 45.76 meters, and he took third in the decathlon winning the high jump event

 

Junior Dwayne Williams (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) placed No. 8 in the high jump with a height of 1.88 meters.  Williams also won the long jump with a distance of 6.85 meters.  Williams also took fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 13.68 meters.

 

Freshman Cameron Carroll placed No. 5 in the long jump with a distance of 6.70 meters.  He also took third in the triple jump with a distance of 13.72 meters.

 

Freshman Zhitavion Shelby (Decatur, Ill.) placed No. 5 in the triple jump with a distance of 13.58 meters.

 

Senior Jeff Crouch (Sedalia, Mo.) placed No. 7 in the shot put with a distance of 13.10 meters.

 

Women’s Point Scorers:

 

Senior Gabby Lovelace (Pleasant Hill, Mo.) placed third in the long jump with a distance of 4.83 meters.  She also placed No. 5 in the triple jump with a distance of 10.28 meters.

 

Sophomore Brittney Brisco (San Diego, Calif.) placed third in the 100 meter dash in a time of 12.89 seconds.  She also won the long jump with a distance of 5.06 meters.  Brisco also placed No. 7 in the triple jump with a distance of 9.52 meters.

 

Freshman Dorothy Adams placed No. 7 in the 100 meter dash in a time of 13.24 seconds.  She also placed fourth in the 200 meter dash in a time of 26.72 seconds.  Adams also placed No. 5 in the 400 meter dash in a time of 1:01.11.  In the long jump she placed No. 7 with a distance of 4.64 meters.

 

Junior Santina Edwards (Pleasant Hill, Mo.) placed No. 5 in the 200 meter dash in a time of 26.82 seconds.  She also placed third in the 400 meter dash in a time of 1:00.56

 

Junior Sarah Niemeier (Lohne, Germany) placed No. 2 in the 1500 meter run in a time of 4:54.03.

 

Senior Amanda Buhr (Jefferson City, Mo.) placed third in the 5000 meter run in a time of 19:23.84.  She also took second in the 10000 meter run in a time of 40:20.15.

 

Junior Guadalupe Burciaga placed fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase in a time of 13:20.24

 

The 4x100 meter relay team placed No. 5 in a time of 55.05.

 

The 4x400 meter relay team placed No. 5 in a time of 4:13.86.

 

The 4x800 meter relay team placed fourth in a time of 10:30.92.

 

Sophomore Daneka Brown (St. Louis, Mo.) placed No. 6 in the triple jump with a distance of 10.01 meters.  Brown also placed fourth in the heptathlon.

 

Members of the Viking track and field program will next compete at Emporia State University May 10.
