MVC Men's Lacrosse Finishes Regular Season, Looks to PostseasonPosted April 29, 2014
Marshall, Mo. (April 29, 2014)- The No. 19 Missouri Valley College men’s lacrosse team finished its regular season Tuesday evening playing in Lawrence, Kan., against the University of Kansas. The Vikings led throughout the game and came away with a 23-11 victory.
MVC played nearly even with Kansas in the first quarter, as the Vikings had just a two goal lead at 5-3 heading into the second quarter. The Vikings put on a scoring barrage in the second quarter and extended their lead to 16-8 at the halftime break. The Vikings added to their lead in the third quarter, outscoring KU by a 5-1 margin to lead 21-9. From there the Vikings cruised in the fourth quarter to come away with a 23-11 victory.
Junior Attacker Doug Brown (Baltimore, Md.) led MVC with six goals and three assists while Junior Midfielder JJ Licata (Bel Air, Md.) finished with five goals and one assist. Junior Midfielder Jeremy Frosch (Ocean Springs, Miss.) had four goals, three assists and 11 ground balls. Tim Setree scored four goals and added two assists and Junior Attacker Greg Abendshoen (Baltimore, Md.) finished with three goals and two assists. In goal, Freshman Goalkeeper Brandon Minshall (Centennial, Colo.) finished with 15 saves for MVC.
The Vikings end the 2014 regular season with a 12-1 overall record and a 4-0 record in the GRLC Division II Northwest Division.
MVC will now look forward to the GRLC Division II Tournament May 2-4 at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. The Vikings will open the tournament with a quarterfinal matchup against Judson University Friday at 1 p.m. The semifinals will be Saturday with the tournament championship game scheduled for 12 p.m., Sunday. The tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the MCLA Division II National Tournament in Orange, Calif., May 12-17.
