MVC Baseball Team a No. 7 Seed in HAAC Championship SeriesPosted April 27, 2014
Marshall, Mo. (April 27, 2014)- The Missouri Valley College baseball has clinched a spot in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship Series for the first time since 2010. The Vikings will be the No. 7 seed in the tournament which will be played May 1-6 at Wendell Redden Stadium in Joplin, Mo.
The Vikings enter the HAAC Championship Series after finishing the regular season with an overall record of 10-31 and a 9-17 mark in conference play. Both regular season and conference wins were the most for the program since the 2010 season.
The Vikings will open HAAC Championship Series play against No. 2 seed Evangel University Thursday at 7 p.m. In the regular season Evangel defeated MVC in all four matchups in games played in Springfield, Mo. Leading MVC into the postseason is Senior Center Fielder Bobby Warchuck (Wichita, Kan.) who ranks No. 8 in the HAAC with a .368 batting average and No. 1 in the HAAC with 17 doubles on the season. Also, Junior Infielder Trevor Duffy (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) and Sophomore Outfielder Lucas Doerhoff (Jefferson City, Mo.) are tied for seventh in the conference with four home runs each this season.
The HAAC Championship Series is a double-elimination tournament and the Vikings will be guaranteed one additional game Friday.
