Lavell Jackson Joins Viking Football Coaching StaffPosted April 4, 2014
Marshall, Mo. (April 2, 2014)- The Missouri Valley College Athletic Department announces the hiring of Defensive Backs Coach Lavell Jackson to the Viking football staff.
Jackson comes to Missouri Valley after spending the 2013 season at the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) as the cornerbacks coach. Prior to last season, he was the defensive backs coach at MidAmerica Nazarene University in 2012, co-defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator at Thornton Township (Harvey, Ill.) High School in 2011 and assistant defensive backs coach at Sioux Falls in 2010.
Jackson played football at the University of Sioux Falls from 2008-2009. He played defensive back and was a kick/punt returner during his two years with the program helping lead Sioux Falls to back-to-back National championships. In 2009, Jackson was named to the all-GPAC first team at the returner position and led the NAIA in punt returns.
"I'm excited to join the Missouri Valley program and help continue its winning tradition," said Jackson. "My goal is to continue to have a No. 1 ranked defense and help the team win a National championship. So far the guys are responding really well in the first week of spring practice and I've enjoyed my first few days on the job getting to know the other coaches on the staff."
Jackson replaces Denny Honnold on the coaching staff. Honnold recently left Missouri Valley to take the defensive coordinator position at Robert Morris (Ill.) College.
“Lavell is an outstanding young coach with some great experiences, not only as a coach, but he also has championship experience as a player,” said Missouri Valley College Head Football Coach Paul Troth. “He will bring new energy and ideas to our program and help to continue our tradition of great football.”
The Viking football team has a spring scrimmage scheduled for Monday April 28, at Gregg-Mitchell Field beginning at 6 p.m.
