Three MVC Student-Athletes Receive HAAC HonorsPosted March 31, 2014
Marshall, Mo. (March 31, 2014)- Three Missouri Valley College student-athletes received weekly honors from the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Senior Luiz Moura (Piracicaba, Brazil) was named the Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, Freshman Lilian Blasque (Andradina, Brazil) was named the Women’s Tennis Player of the Week and Sophomore Brittany Brisco (San Diego, Calif.) was named the Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Moura earned his first weekly conference award by helping MVC to a 4-0 record in matches last week. The Vikings dropped only three of 36 total matches in victories over Johnson County Community College, Grand View University, St. Ambrose University and Ottawa University. Moura went 6-1 in his singles and doubles matches, playing in the No. 1 position in both. MVC has won nine-straight and is 9-1 on the season.
Blasque also earned her first weekly conference award by leading MVC to a 4-0 record in matches last week. Like the men’s team, the women’s team dropped just three of 36 total matches against the same four opponents. Blasque was a perfect 8-0 in her singles and doubles matches last week playing in the No. 1 position in both. The women’s team has won seven-straight matches and sits at 8-2 on the season.
The tennis teams will play three times during the week, hosting Westminster College Tuesday at 4 p.m., and William Jewell College Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. Saturday the Vikings will travel to Baker University for matches at 11 a.m.
Brisco earned her first weekly outdoor honor by helping MVC to finish No. 3 in the team standings at the Central Methodist University Open Saturday. Brisco placed first in the long jump with a distance of 5.05 meters. She also ran in the 100 meter dash placing second with a time of 12.71 seconds and placed third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.13 seconds.
The track and field teams will travel back to Fayette on Saturday to compete at the Central Methodist University Invite at 9 a.m.
