MVC FINE ARTS DIVISION PRESENTS SPRING PRODUCTION

Production set for March 26-29 in the Eckilson-Mabee Theatre

Marshall, Mo. (March 18, 2014)— The Missouri Valley College fine arts division will present “The Good Doctor,” a comedy by Neil Simon.  Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. nightly, March 26-29 in the Eckilson-Mabee Theatre.

Simon’s comedy is based on the short stories of Anton Chekhov.  The actors play numerous roles as they bring the stories to life.  The challenge is not only to create a wide variety of characters, but to encompass a variety of styles as well.  The comedy ranges from witty and ironic to broad physical humor.

“The Good Doctor” ran on Broadway 1973-1974 and was nominated for four Tony Awards including Best Original Score, Best Featured Actor in a Play and Best Lighting Design. A television movie was made based on the play, premiering on U.S. public television in 1978.

Cast members include:  Taylor Castillo, senior from Hartsburg, Mo.; Caitlynn Davidson, senior from Mokane, Mo.; Matthew Ford, senior from Camdenton, Mo.; Heather Hill, senior from Versailles, Mo.; Terrence D. Mickens, III, freshman from Lake St. Louis, Mo. and Taylor Peecksen, freshman from Savannah, Ga.

The production is directed by Harold Hynick, assistant professor of theatre. The play is managed by Stage Manager Joshua Tag, senior from Redmond, Wash., and Assistant Stage Manager Jessica D’Amico, senior from Imperial, Mo. The costumes are designed by Dyann Rozema, fine arts instructor; scenery and lighting are designed by Jay Rozema, associate professor of theatre.
