MISSOURI VALLEY ATHLETICS RANKS IN THE TOP 15
Marshall, Mo. (March 13, 2014)- Thanks to recent postseason success from various athletic programs, the Missouri Valley College Athletics Department has been recognized in the 2013-2014 Learfield Sports Director’s Cup NAIA Standings. The Vikings are ranked No. 15 in the latest standings released this week, which includes all fall sports along with indoor track and field and men’s wrestling. Six Viking programs have combined for 274.75 points.
The standings are based on a point system awarded to schools for success in National postseason play. The Vikings had three fall season sports that generated points, as football, men’s soccer and men’s cross country all advanced to their respective National competitions. The Viking football team advanced to the NAIA Football Championship Series quarterfinals, the men’s soccer team advanced to the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship Tournament second round and the men’s cross country team placed No. 23 in the NAIA Cross Country National Championship. The three sports combined generated 141 points.
For winter sports, MVC has been awarded points for men’s and women’s indoor track and field and men’s wrestling. The MVC men’s indoor track and field team placed No. 37 and the women’s team placed No. 47 at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships. The men’s wrestling team placed No. 6 at the NAIA Wrestling National Championship. The three sports combined generated 133.75 points.
“This is a tremendous accomplishment for our athletic programs at Missouri Valley,” said Athletic Director Tom Fifer. “Our coaches and student-athletes do a great job of representing our institution, both on the field and off, and we’re all proud of their accomplishments so far this year.”
The Vikings are the second-highest ranked Heart of America Athletic Conference school in the Director’s Cup, trailing only No. 13 Baker University by 28 points. Other HAAC schools ranked include No. 40 Benedictine College, No. 60 MidAmerica Nazarene University, No. 73 Graceland University, No. 116 Evangel University, No. 122 Central Methodist University,
