MVC Men's Volleyball Wraps Up Weekend Defeating Cardinal StritchPosted March 1, 2014
The No. 9 Missouri Valley College men’s volleyball team wrapped up action at the Spartan Invitational at Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis, Mo., Saturday afternoon. The Vikings defeated Cardinal-Stritch University 3-0, and finished the weekend with a 2-1 record.
MVC went back and forth with Cardinal Stritch in the first game, but was able to dominate the rest of the match, eventually winning 29-27, 25-14, 25-20.
Leading the way for MVC was Junior Opposite Chris MacFayden (Aurora, Ill.) who finished with 16 kills, three aces and two blocks. Also with double-digit kills was Senior Middle Blocker Jacob Haar (La Mesa, Calif.) who had 10 kills, four digs and three blocks. Junior Outside Hitter Zach Brown (Plainfield, Ill.) finished the match with eight kills and two blocks, while Senior Setter Will McCracken (Goleta, Calif.) had 41 assists, four kills and seven digs. Defensively for MVC, Junior Setter Joao Amaral (Rio de Janiero, Brazil) Sophomore Libero Ding Hui (Zhejiang, China), Senior Outside Hitter Jacob Peterson (San Jose, Calif.) and Sophomore Libero Victor Magalhaes (Contagem, Brazil) all combined for 26 digs.
On Friday the Vikings lost a tough match to No. 7 St. Ambrose University 25-21, 25-21, 21-25, 18-25, 13-15, but defeated Emmanuel College 25-18, 23-25, 25-19, 25-22. A fourth match at the Spartan Invitational against Graceland University scheduled for Saturday afternoon was canceled due to the expected weather forecast to hit the state.
After the 2-1 finish at the Spartan Invitational the Vikings improve to 14-8 overall on the season.
Next up for the men’s volleyball team is a home match Tuesday hosting No. 3 Park University in a match that gets underway at 7 p.m..
