MVC Men's Lacrosse Wins Third Straight to Open SeasonPosted February 28, 2014
The Missouri Valley College men’s lacrosse traveled to St. Louis, Mo., Friday afternoon for a matchup with Missouri Baptist University. The Vikings led throughout the game, and pulled away from the Spartans for a 14-7 victory.
The two teams played close through the first quarter of action, but the Vikings were able to score two goals in the opening quarter to grab an early 2-0 lead. Despite two goals from the Spartans in the second quarter, MVC was able to expand on their lead before halftime, leading by a 7-2 score at the break. The third quarter was played tightly between the two teams, but again, the Vikings were able to add to their advantage, scoring two goals in the quarter to MBU’s one goal, and take a 9-3 lead in the fourth. Missouri Baptist turned things around offensively in the final quarter, scoring four goals, but the Vikings held off any late comeback attempt from the Spartans to pull away for a 14-7 victory.
Leading the way for MVC was Junior Attacker Doug Brown (Baltimore, Md.) who scored four goals and added one assist. Junior Midfielder Jeremy Frosch (Ocean Springs, Miss.) had three goals and Junior Attacker Greg Abendshoen (Catonsville, Md.) finished with two goals and two assists. Also, Junior Midfielder JJ Licata (Bel Air, Md.) scored two goals with one assist and 11 ground balls. Other goal scorers for MVC were Junior Attacker Max Slutsky (Raleigh, N.C.) who scored two goals and Sophomore Midfielder Tim Setree (Annapolis, Md.) who finished with one goal. In goal, Freshman Goalkeeper Brandon Minshall (Centennial, Colo.) finished with 24 saves and as a team the Vikings came up with 38 ground balls.
MVC improves to 3-0 on the season while Missouri Baptist falls to 1-1.
Up next, the Vikings are scheduled to travel to Omaha, Neb., for a matchup with Creighton University Sunday with a game time of 12 p.m.
