MVC Track & Field Competes at the HAAC Indoor Championships

MVC TRACK & FIELD COMPETES AT THE HAAC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

Marshall, Mo. (February 22, 2014)- The Missouri Valley College indoor track and field team competed Friday in day one of the Heart of America Athletic Conference championships at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. The men’s team had its best finish since 1994 by placing second with 164.5 points, behind first place Baker University with 247 points. The women’s team had one of its best finishes since 1993 placing No. 3 with 89 points, as Baker won the team championship.

 

Men’s Results:

Earl Coats- Competing in the 55 meter hurdles placed No. 12 in the preliminaries with a time of 11.32 seconds. Coats also competed in the 600 yard run and placed No. 13 with a time of 1:27.70. Coats placed No. 9 in the heptathalon.

 

Markell Strickland- Competing in the 55 meter hurdles advanced to the finals with an 8.02 second race in the preliminary round and placed No. 2 in the finals with a time of 8.05 seconds. Also in the triple jump he placed No. 5 with a distance of 13.02 meters. Strickland also competed in the long jump and placed No. 9 with a distance of 6.24 meters.

 

Cedric O’Hara- Competing in the 55 meter dash ran a 6.71, but failed to qualify for the event finals. Also in the 200 meter dash he advanced to the finals with a time of 23.48, and in the finals he placed No. 5 with a time of 23.46 seconds.

 

Freshman Zhitavion Shelby (Kyiv, Ukraine)- Competing in the 55 meter dash ran a 6.84 but failed to qualify for the finals. Also in the 200 meter dash he failed to advance to the finals with a time of 23.61. In the triple jump he placed No. 6 with a distance of 12.97 meters. In the long jump, Shelby placed No. 11 with a distance of 6.08 meters.

 

Senior Dwayne Williams (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.)- Competing in the 55 meter dash ran a 6.62 in the preliminaries, then ran a 6.61 in the semifinals to secure a spot in the finals Saturday where he was disqualified. Also in the 200 meter dash he advanced to the finals with a 22.91 and placed No. 7 with a time of 23.56 seconds. In the triple jump he placed No. 3 with a distance of 13.41 meters. Williams competed in the long jump Saturday and placed No. 10 with a jump of 6.10 meters.

 

Senior Sidney Mackey (Nassau, Bahamas)- Competing in the 55 meter dash ran a 6.89 but did not qualify for the finals. Also in the 200 meter dash he failed to advance to the finals with a time of 24.48

 

Freshman Cameron Carroll- Competed in the triple jump and placed No. 7 with a distance of 12.62 meters. In the long jump Carroll placed No. 8 with a distance of 6.27 meters.

 

Freshman Zuva Bverkerwa- Competing in the 55 meter dash he ran a 6.85 but failed to qualify for the finals. Also in the 200 meter dash he finished with a 23.55 but failed to advance. In the 400 meter dash Saturday he placed No. 16 with a time of 1:02.42.

 

Freshman Lewis Owens- Competing in the 55 meter dash he ran a 6.95 but did not qualify for the finals. Also in the 200 meter dash he failed to advance to the finals with a time of 24.19.

 

Freshman Phillip Cheruiyout (Nairobi, Kenya)- Competing in the 5000 meter run he won the event with a time of 15:42.13. Cheruiyout also competed in the 3000 meter run Saturday and placed No. 2 with a time of 8:56.91.

 

Freshman Nate Martin (Jackson, Mo.)- Competing in the 5000 meter run he placed No. 11 with a time of 16:39.92. In the 3000 meter run he placed No. 11 with a time of 9:39.22.

 

Junior Will Lee (Strafford, Mo.)- Competing in the 5000 meter run he placed No. 13 with a time of 17:05.10. In the 3000 meter run Lee placed No. 14 with a time of 9:52.52.

 

Freshman Robert Saunders (Excelsior Springs, Mo.)- Competing in the 3000 meter race walk he placed No. 9 with a time of 23:45.97

 

Freshman Dakota Harris (California, Mo.)- Competing in the 3000 meter race walk he placed No. 3 with a time of 17:16.01. Harris competed in the 3000 meter run and placed No. 16 with a time of 10:22.61.

 

Freshman Illya Starikov (DeSoto, Mo.)- Competing in the 3000 meter race walk he placed No. 8 with a time of 23:45.97

 

Junior Nick Jenkins (Marshall, Mo.)- Competing in the 3000 meter race walk he placed No. 5 with a time of 17:44.91.

 

Freshman Nolan Ryan (St. Peters, Mo.)- Ryan competed in the one mile run and placed No. 6 with a time of 4:35.17. In the 800 meter run he placed No. 4 with a time of 2:05.33 and in the 3000 meter run he placed No. 6 with a time of 9:19.87.

 

Freshman Spencer Head (Camas, Wash.)- Head won the two events he was in Saturday, winning the one mile run in a time of 4:23.07 and the 800 meter run in a time of 2:01.20.

 

Sophomore Joel Leuck (Lexington, Mo.)- Leuck placed No. 11 with a time of 4:53.71. In the 1000 meter run he placed No. 8 with a time of 2:53.93.

 

Senior Kenneth Kipng’eitch (Nairobi, Kenya)- Competed in the 400 meter dash and placed No. 3 with a time of 51.42 seconds.

 

Sophomore Brynton Johnson (Nassau, Bahamas)- Competed in the 600 yard run Saturday placed No. 10 with a time of 2:31.16

 

Sophomore Ignacio Franco (Cadiz, Spain)- Competed in the 800 meter run Saturday and placed No. 2 with a time of 2:02.34.

 

Freshman Alexis Barbry- Competed in the 3000 meter run Saturday and placed No. 1 with a time of 8:56.69.

 

Sophomore Tyrail Gardner (Breckendridge, Mo.)- Competing in the weight throw he placed No. 18 with a distance of 9.67 meters. Also in the shot put Saturday he placed No. 16 with a distance of 10.86 meters.

 

Senior Jeff Crouch (Sedalia, Mo.)- Competing in the weight throw he placed No. 5 with a distance of 13.77 meters. Also in the shot put Saturday he placed No. 5 with a distance of 13.12 meters.

 

Sophomore Cory Baker (Strafford, Mo.)- Competing in the weight throw he placed No. 9 with a distance of 12.81 meters. Also in the shot put Saturday he placed No. 17 with a distance of 10.51 meters.

 

Sophomore Andrew Longboy (Mililani, Hawai’i- Competing in the triple jump he placed No. 8 with a distance of 12.59 meters. Longboy competed in high jump Saturday and placed No. 3 with a height of 1.91 meters. Longboy placed No. 5 in the heptathalon.

 

Bryor Bookout- Competed in the shot put and placed No. 20 with a distance of 8.43 meters.

 

4X800 meter relay team of Nolan Ryan, Kenneth Kipng’etich, Ignacio Franco, and Spencer Head placed first and set a National qualifying time finishing in 7:58.34

 

The distance medley team of Franco, Bverkerwa, Kipng’etich, and Head competed Saturday and placed No. 1 with a time of 10:48.73.

 

4X400 meter relay team of Kipng’etich, Head, Bverkerwa and Franco competed Saturday and placed No. 3 with a time of 3:31.93.

 

Women’s:

Freshman Taylor Kean (Gravette, Ark.)- Competing in the 55 meter hurdles she finished in a time of 9.77 seconds but failed to make the finals and in the triple jump placed No. 9 with a distance of 9.22 meters. Kean competed in the 600 yard run and placed No. 4 with a time of 1:37.65. In the long jump she placed No. 9 with a distance of 4.55 meters. She also placed no. 6 in the pentathlon.

 

Freshman Bria Miller- Competing in the 55 meter hurdles she finished in a time of 11.32 seconds but failed to make the finals. Also in the 600 yard run Saturday she placed No. 6 with a time of 1:39.65.

 

Junior Fanny Bertalan (Lyon, France)- Competing in the 55 meter dash she finished with a 7.68, but failed to make the finals by .01 of a second. Also in the 200 meter dash she finished with a 28.17 but failed to advance

 

Sophomore Brittney Brisco (San Diego, Calif.)- Competing 55 meter dash finished with a 7.65 in the preliminaries and advanced to the finals with a 7.67 in the semifinals. In the finals she placed 7 with a time of 7.68 seconds. Also in the 200 meter dash she finished with a 28.05 but failed to advance. In the triple jump she placed No. 5 with a distance of 10.19 meters. Competing in the long jump she placed No. 4 with a distance of 5.15 meters.

 

Junior Satina Edwards (Pleasant Hill, Mo.)- Competing 55 meter dash finished with an 8.33 in the preliminaries but failed to advance. Also in the 200 meter dash she finished with a 27.46 and advanced to the finals where she placed No. 3 with a time of 27.09 seconds. Edwards competed In the 400 meter dash Saturday and placed No. 4 with a time of 1:02.93.

 

Junior Carnekia Burnett (St. Louis, Mo.)- Competing in the 55 meter dash she finished with a 7.92 in the semifinals but failed to advance.. Also in the long jump Saturday she placed No. 15 with a distance of 3.82 meters.

 

Senior Amanda Buhr (Jefferson City, Mo.)- Competing in the 5000 meter run she placed No. 7 with a time of 20:13.55. Also in the 3000 meter run Saturday she placed No. 9 with a distance of 11:28.72.

 

Junior Guadalupe Burciaga- Competing in the 5000 meter dash she placed No. 11 with a time of 22:22.00.

 

Freshman Olivia Bird (Tulsa, Okla.)- Competing in the 5000 meter dash she placed No. 12 with a time of 22:40.73. Also in the 3000 meter run Saturday she placed No. 14 with a time of 12:19.92,

 

Freshman Alex Thompson (Breckenridge, Mo.)- Competed in the 600 yard run Saturday and placed No. 10 with a time of 2:31.16

 

Senior Bailey Gambrell (Colorado Springs, Colo.)- Competing in the 3000 race walk she placed No. 5 with a time of 24:16.91. Also in the 1000 meter run Saturday she placed No. 6 with a tiem of 4:02.71

 

Junior Sarah Niemeier (Lohne, Germany)- Competed in the one mile run and placed No. 2 with a time of 5:25.66. Also in the 800 meter run she placed No. 4 with a time of 2:24.61.

 

Freshman Dorothy Adams- Competing in the 200 meter dash she advanced to the finals with a time of 27.06. In the finals she placed No. 4 with a time of 27.20 seconds. Competing in the 400 meter dash Saturday she placed No. 2 with a time of 1:02.10.

Sophomore Daneka Brown (St. Louis, Mo.)- Competing in the triple jump she placed No. 7 with a distance of 9.92 meters. Also In the long jump she placed No. 14 with a distance of 4.18 meters. She also placed no. 8 in the pentathlon.

 

4X800 meter relay team of Buhr, Niemeier, Bird and Burciaga placed No. 5 with a time of 11:06.87

 

The distance medley team of Buhr, Bertalan, Kean and Niemeier competing Saturday placed No. 3 with a time of 13:58.38.

 

The 4X400 meter relay team of Bertalan, Edwards, Kean and Niemeier competing Saturday placed No. 4 with a time of 4:18.73.

 

Members of the Viking indoor track and field program will move on to the NAIA Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Geneva, Ohio Mar. 6-8.
