MVC Track Competes at Snowbird Classic Saturday in Illinois

MVC TRACK COMPETES AT SNOWBIRD CLASSIC SATURDAY IN ILLINOIS

 

Marshall, Mo. (January 25, 2014)- The Missouri Valley College indoor track and field team sent student-athletes to the Snowbird Classic at Illinois College in Jacksonville, Ill., Saturday. Two Vikings won an event, Senior Byron Evans (Chicago, Ill.) in the triple jump and Freshman Spencer Head (Camas, Wash.) in the 800 meter run. The men’s team took fourth in the team standings with 67 points, behind the men’s winner Central Methodist University with 95 points. The women’s team placed No. 8 with 37 points, behind champion Illinois College with 97 points.

 

Men’s Results:

Zhitavion Shelby- Placed third in the long jump with a distance of 6.22 meters. Placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 13.31 meters.

 

Markell Strickland- Placed fifth in the long jump with a distance of 6.17 meters. Placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 13.35 meters. Placed second in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.74 seconds.

 

Senior Byron Evans (Chicago, Ill.)- Placed first in the triple jump with a distance of 13.95 meters.

 

Andrew Longboy- Placed seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 12.56 meters. Placed second in the high jump with a height of 1.97 meters.

 

Cameron Carrol- Placed eighth in the long jump with a distance of 12.34 meters

 

Senior Jeff Crouch (Sedalia, Mo.)- Placed fifth in the shot put with a distance of 12.43 meters.

 

Sophomore Cory Baker (Strafford, Mo.)- Placed ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 12.42 meters

 

Freshman Spencer Head (Camas, Wash.)- Placed first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:01.62.

 

Women’s Results:

Sophomore Brittney Brisco (San Diego, Calif.)- Placed second in the long jump with a distance of 4.77 meters

 

Taylor Kean- Placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 9.52 meters. Placed eighth in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 11.02 seconds.

 

Junior Sarah Niemeier (Lohne, Germany)- Finished second in the 400 meter dash in a time of 1:02.70.

 

Senior Amanda Buhr (Jefferson City, Mo.)- Placed fifth in the 3000 meter run in a time of 11:45.11.

 

4x200 meter relay team finished first with a time of 1:56.90.

 

The Viking indoor track and field program will be in action Friday at the Principia College Relays in Elsah, Ill.
