MVC Track Competes in Kansas Friday

MVC TRACK COMPETES IN KANSAS FRIDAY

 

Marshall, Mo. (January 24, 2014)- The Missouri Valley College indoor track and field team got back into action Friday, competing at Jayhawk Classic in Lawrence, Kan.

 

Men’s Results:

Freshman Phillip Cheriyout (Nairobi, Kenya) finished second in his 1 mile group with a time of 8:53.89, less than two seconds behind the winner.

 

Freshman Nolan Ryan (St. Peters, Mo.) finished No. 17 in his 1 mile group in a time of 9:16.91.

 

Freshman Spencer Head (Camas, Wash.) finished No. 8 in his 800 meter run group with a time of 2:03.25.

 

Distance Medley: Spencer Head, Sophomore Ignacio Franco (Cadiz, Spain), Senior Kenneth Kipng’etich (Nairobi, Kenya), and Alexis Babry finished in a time of 10:34.

 

Women’s:

Junior Sarah Niemeir (Lohne, Germany) finished first in her 1 mile group with a time of 5:20.51 which also set a school record that stood for 20 years. Niemeir also finished second in the 1000 meter run with a time of 3:04.19.

 

The Viking indoor track and field program will be in action Saturday at the Snow Bird Open in Jacksonville, Ill.
