Bruce Morgan

Dr. Morgan has over 35 years experience as a banker, bank consultant, and college professor.

Dr. Morgan is Manager and Member, Professional Bank Consultants, LLC.  Until February, 2008, he was Chairman, President, CEO, and Director of Valley State Bank, in Roeland Park, Kansas.  Previously, he was a founder and Director of Johnson County Bank, in Overland Park, Kansas; was a Director, Executive Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer of Winterset State Bank, in Missouri; and served as Director, Financial Services consulting for the Big-6 public accounting firm of Coopers & Lybrand.  Prior to joining C&L, he was Executive Vice President of a multi-bank holding company where he supervised non-bank subsidiaries, managed assets of seven bank affiliates, monitored and supervised community bank performance, served on boards of affiliate banks, and directed asset-liability management.

Dr. Morgan is a Professor of Finance, Benedictine College, where he co-founded Benedictine’s EMBA program and currently teaches EMBA courses in finance, managerial economics, and new venture management.  Previously he was an Adjunct Professor of Finance at the Henry W. Bloch School of Business and Public Administration, University of Missouri-Kansas City.  He has conducted training programs for bank regulators for the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council. 

Dr. Morgan is a past member of the Federal Reserve Board’s Consumer Advisory Council.  He is a past member and past Chairman of the Kansas State Banking Board.  He has served as a member of the Customer Advisory Committee, Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, and advises Fed officials on the payments system.  He serves on the Federal Affairs Committee of the Kansas Banker’s Association and the Regulation Review Committee of the Independent Community Bankers of America.  He has been a volunteer for the Financial Services Volunteer Corps working with commercial banks and regulators on identifying and correcting problems in troubled banks and their lending portfolios in Croatia, Ukraine, and Macedonia.

Dr. Morgan has been a frequent commentator on events in the economy and banking industry for the media and before legislative bodies. He also has provided expert testimony on bank operations, bank management, valuation, lending practices, and duties of directors and officers.  Dr. Morgan has a diploma from the Prochnow Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration and Urban Studies from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
