The Missouri Valley College Athletic Training Program will not be accepting applications for the 2017-2018 academic year (spring 2018 applications) while we investigate the feasibility of transitioning to a Master's Level Athletic Training Program. There is no change for the 2016-17 academic year, current college freshmen and potential transfer students; please apply during the spring 2017 application period.

John Bartholomew - Director of Exercise Science

John Bartholomew arrived at Missouri Valley College in 2015. He is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Health Sciences and the Director of Exercise Science and the fitness testing laboratory. John earned bachelor's degrees in Athletic Training and Biology with a minor in Chemistry from South Dakota State University before attending graduate school at Indiana State University. While at Indiana State University, John was a graduate assistant and technician within the exercise physiology laboratory and taught several classes pertaining to physical fitness, emergency care, personal training, fitness testing techniques, human physiology, and exercise physiology. John received a master's degree in Athletic Training from Indiana State University with an emphasis in exercise physiology. Upon graduation from Indiana State University, John was employed at Neosho County Community College (KS) as the head athletic trainer and fitness instructor. While at Neosho County Community College, he developed a personal training certificate program that would prepare graduates for the American Council on Exercise (ACE) personal training certification exam. John served as the director of the personal training academic program as well as taught several health and fitness related courses. After Neosho County Community College, John went to Graceland University (IA) to become the head athletic trainer and to continue teaching fitness testing, health and safety, emergency care, exercise technique, rehabilitation, and exercise physiology courses from 2001 to 2015. John maintains many health care and fitness certifications and specializations. He is a certified athletic trainer (ATC) who possess a Missouri athletic training license, a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS), an American Red Cross work place first aid and CPR instructor, a certified practitioner in the Graston® mobilization technique, and a certified Kinesio® Tape practitioner and a member of their national teaching faculty. Additionally, John is an active member of several professional organizations, a district representative to the NAIA, and a moderator at various symposiums. John, along with his wife Diane and daughter Kami, reside in Marshall.

 

Dr. Kelly Ross, DO - Medical Director, Athletic Training Program

Dr. Kelly Ross

Dr. Kelly Ross became affiliated with the Missouri Valley College Athletic Training Program in 2005 and has been the Medical Director of the Missouri Valley College Athletic Training Program since 2006. Dr. Ross completed her medical school at University Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City after first completing a degree in Zoology at Arizona State. Dr. Ross performed her surgical internship and orthopedic residency at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan, before completing her fellowship in pediatric orthopedics at Shriners Hospital for Children in Chicago. Dr. Ross, a native of Carrolton, Missouri, is currently an orthopedic surgeon at Marshall Orthopedic & Sports Medicine at Fitzgibbon Hospital which allows her to practice medicine close to her family. Dr. Ross has the additional duties at Fitzgibbon Hospital of being the Rehabilitation Services Medical Director. Dr. Ross is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery, and the American College of Sports Medicine. Dr. Ross is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

 

David Tomchuk - Clinical Education Coordinator

David Tomchuk

David Tomchuk arrived at Missouri Valley College in 2005. He is the Clinical Education Coordinator of the Missouri Valley College Athletic Training Program and an Assistant Professor in the Division of Health Sciences. David provided clinical athletic training services to the Missouri Valley College men's soccer and men's volleyball teams from 2005 to 2014. David earned his bachelor's degrees in Athletic Training and Health Promotion and Fitness Management from Southern Oregon University in June 2002. During his undergraduate education, David was an intern athletic trainer with several Oakland Athletics minor league teams. David went onto obtain his master's degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in May 2005. At UNLV he obtained his master's degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training. David is a nationally certified athletic trainer and strength and conditioning specialist who possesses athletic training licenses in Missouri and Colorado. David is the author of the book Companion Guide to Measurement and Evaluation for Kinesiology and is a reviewer for the Open Access Journal of Sports Medicine, the Journal of Orthopedic Research and Reviews, and the American Journal of Sports Science. David has authored and presented on several injury and emergency care topics at state, regional, and national athletic training symposiums. David is a member of the Missouri Athletic Trainers' political action committee. David is actively involved with the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education, the National Athletic Trainers' Association, and the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer. David is also a member of Bare Essentials Sports Medicine who provides athletic training services to regional and national taekwondo tournaments and championships. David currently resides in Marshall.

 

Matt Long - Head Athletic Trainer

Matt Long

Matt Long came to Missouri Valley College in 2013 as the head athletic trainer. Matt graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor's degree in athletic training and kinesiology before performing his graduate assistantship at the University of Missouri. During his time as a graduate assistant at the University of Missouri, Matt provided athletic training services to the University of Missouri football team while obtaining his master's in health education and promotion. Upon graduation, Matt remained at the University of Missouri as member of the athletic training staff and was the primary athletic trainer for the baseball team and supervised the athletic training services provided to the dance and cheerleading teams. Matt has also been an intern athletic trainer with the Carolina Panthers. Matt is responsible for the overall operation of the Missouri Valley College athletic training department and specifically the comprehensive healthcare of the Missouri Valley College football, rodeo, golf, cross country, and track and field teams. Matt also instructs in the Missouri Valley College Division of Health Sciences and was the recipient of the Missouri Valley College Student Government Association Outstanding New Faculty Award for the 2013-2014 academic year. Matt serves as a member of the Missouri Athletic Trainers' Association Honors and Awards Committee and is Vice President of the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) Athletic Trainers' Association. Under Matt's leadership, The Missouri Valley College athletic training staff was recognized as the 2014-2015 as the HAAC athletic training staff of the year. Matt is a certified athletic trainer and possesses a Missouri athletic training license. Matt currently resides in Marshall.

 

Jake Bellon - Assistant Athletic Trainer

Jake Bellon

Jake Bellon began working as an assistant athletic trainer and instructor in the Division of Health Sciences at Missouri Valley College in 2016. Jake received his bachelor's degree in athletic training with a health minor from Graceland University before becoming a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Fort Hays State University; where he earned his master's degree in sports administration. While at Fort Hays State University Jake was the athletic trainer for the softball, cross country, and track and field teams. After graduating from Fort Hays State University, Jake provided outreach athletic training services to high schools in northwest Colorado. Jake is a practitioner of the Graston® technique and has provided athletic training services to the Special Olympic events. Jake is a certified athletic trainer who possesses a Missouri athletic training license. Jake is charged for the comprehensive health care of the football, men's volleyball, and softball teams at Missouri Valley College. Jake currently resides in Marshall.

 

Richelle Perkins - Assistant Athletic Trainer

Richelle Perkins

Richelle Perkins began working as an assistant athletic trainer and instructor in the Division of Health Sciences at Missouri Valley College in 2016. Richelle received an associate's degree in biology from Moberly Area Community College, a bachelor's degree in Athletic Training with a minor in biology from William Woods University, as well as her master's of education degree (athletic administration emphasis) from William Woods University. Richelle was a member of the William Woods University cross country and track teams for 4 years; where she held the race walk school record. Richelle is a certified athletic trainer, possesses a Missouri athletic training license, and is also a certified lifeguard. Richelle is responsible for the comprehensive health care of the women's volleyball, women's wrestling, women's lacrosse, and cheer teams at Missouri Valley College. Richelle currently resides in Marshall.

 

Vince Fedorowich - Assistant Athletic Trainer

Vince Fedorowich

Vince Fedorowich began working as an assistant athletic trainer and instructor in the Division of Health Sciences at Missouri Valley College in 2016. Vince received his athletic training bachelor's degree from Graceland University before obtaining a master's degree in education (emphasis in athletic training) from Old Dominion University. Since graduate school, Vince has been an athletic trainer with several NHL minor league affiliates across the country. Vince was selected as the Central Hockey League Athletic Trainer of the Year in 2013. Vince is a certified athletic trainer who possesses a Missouri athletic training license. Vince is responsible for providing athletic training services to the men's soccer, women's basketball, and men's lacrosse teams at Missouri Valley College. Vince is originally from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; but currently resides in Marshall.

 

Zach Glenn - Assistant Athletic Trainer

Zach Glenn

Zach Glenn began working as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Missouri Valley College in 2016. Zach received his bachelor's degree in athletic training and a minor in health from Culver-Stockton College. After graduation, Zach spent time as a high school and collegiate athletic trainer in Indiana and New York before returning to Missouri. Zach is a certified athletic trainer who possesses a Missouri athletic training license. Zach is also certified in the Graston® Technique. Zach provides athletic training services to the women's soccer, men's basketball, and football teams at Missouri Valley College. Zach is originally from Pilot Grove, MO; but currently resides in Marshall.
