MVC Cafeteria

The Learning Center

Tutors are need in the areas of English, mathematics, science (biology, anatomy, and physics) and busines (accounting). We may also hire students in other disciplines as the need arises.

Student tutors must display proficiency in the area in which they plan to tutor. Tutors must be of sophomore, junior, or senior status in college. They should have completed basic courses in their area of expertise (i.e. EN 130/160, College Algebra or higher) with a grade of A. They must submit a letter of recommendation from at least one instructor in the area they plan to tutor to Carol Smith, .

Tutors should display a pleasant, approachable personality and have strong communication skills. Work schedules are based around the student's class schedule. Students typically work 6-8 hours per week between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. Students can also choose to tutor in the evening at Murrell Library. The Learning Center is closed on weekends, however, tutors may work Sunday evenings at Murrell Library.

Reliable student help at the Learning Center is very important. Once students have committed to their schedule, students are expected to be at work every day they are scheduled unless they have a school related commitment (sporting event, seminar, etc.) or are ill. Students must contact the LC director in all cases of absence. A twenty-four hour notice is requested for planned events.

Head Start

Hours: Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Friday 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. (Student Employment work schedules will be set up around the student's class schedule)

Job Description: Doing activities with the children that include, reading, puzzles, counting, and working on motor skills. Also getting the classroom ready, copying, and arranging folders.

Indian Foothills Park

Park staff works Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. and work schedules will be set up around the student's class schedule and park hours. All positions are for park maintenance and duties include but are not limited to: maintaining park ground/fields by cutting grass, trimming trees, picking up trash, week removal, and cleaning/restocking of all park facilities; assures equipment is in proper working order; may operate a variety of power tools and small equipment; assures proper safety standards and precautions are adhered to; and performs related work as needed or assigned by the supervisor.

Lighthouse Shelter

The Shelter Support Volunteers are responsible for primary and secondary advocacy for clients. The Volunteers foremost responsibility is to provide all shelter residents with a safe and supportive environment. This would include initial crisis intervention, community resource referrals, and direct services. There are various hours and days to work, so we are able work with many different schedules including student athletes. There are opportunities to work at the shelter, the thrift store, and possibly in the office area. Training will be provided for everything.

Responsibilities of the Student Employees is to; Provide coverage and back-up for 24-hour crisis hot line, ensuring callers have immediate access, Provide crisis intervention and emotional support as necessary and information and referrals to other service providers and resources, Provide empowering support to residents experiencing discipline problems with children, including education about non-violent methods. Promotes positive resident interaction, offer conflict resolution during disagreements and educates residents about positive communication, Supervise all shelter activities, including cooking, clean-up and children’s bedtime, Supervise family time and offers activities that promote healthy and positive interactions, Implement any emergency procedures when necessary and conducts periodic safety drills, Document any shelter maintenance and supply needs and reports them to the Volunteer Advocacy Specialist, Participate in all volunteer trainings and meetings, Conduct intake interviews and provides orientation and follow-up to new shelter residents, Ensure that precautions are taken to provide security and confidentiality for all residents and non-residents, and Perform basic cleaning of the shelter, including offices, bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchen and all living areas along with any other work-related duties as required by the Volunteer Advocacy Specialist.

Marshall Animal Shelter

Duties would be assigned to students based on theri interests, skills, comfort level with various tasks and needs of the Shelter. Students who are sensitive to bleach, pet odors or pet hair/dander might not wish to work here. This is sometimes dirty and physically hard work. I am looking for people who love animals and who are conscientious about the quality of care they receive. Some other tasks involved in working at the Marshall Animal Shelter include: Cleaning animal cages/kennels; feeding, watering, handling dogs and cats in a shelter setting; cleaning common areas such as office, bathroom, etc; assisting visitors to the Shelter; depending ont he experience of the student, walking, socializing, playing with or grooming dogs and cats; answering phones or other type duties; assisting with special projects as skills allow, and other duties as assigned.

Our greatest need is from 8-12 noon, 7 days per week, since this is when the bulk of the cleaning/feeding tasks are done. Afternoons are a possibility for limited hours. I am very willing to work with students on hours, as I realize that they have full class loads and extracurricular activities. Work hours are expected to be scheduled ahead of time, prefer no walk-in hours. Students must be dependable to show up at their scheduled times.

Salt Fork YMCA

Child Watch/Kid's Gym: Child Care staff is responsible for providing constant quality supervision of children from 6weeks to 6yrs old in Child Watch and 4yr to 10yrs old in Kid’s Gym. Employees will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness in the facility at all times. The child care staff is one of the primary contacts for members and potential members utilizing the Child Watch/Kid’s Gym, and is charged with the responsibility of creating a safe, fun, friendly, and courteous environment for all members and their children. Employees must reflect a positive attitude and have the ability to deal with diverse groups in a consistent manner. All child care staff will exemplify the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Staff members must have basic knowledge of childcare and child development needs.

Employees must abide by the YMCA mission statement, maintain a professional appearance by always wearing your nametag and staff shirt (tucked in at all times), Arrive for scheduled work shift on time and ready to begin working, Greet members and potential members promptly, professionally, and politely, follow good health practices (washing hands, cleaning play areas, etc.), keep Child Watch/Kid’s Gym area organized and clean, use the computer for proper check-in of children, provide activities for the children, and interact with children at eye-level when they are in the child care area(s), attend meetings and trainings as needed, complete projects/tasks assigned by the Program Director or Childcare Coordinator, maintain a current and appropriate CPR, 1st Aid, Blood Born Pathogen, Oxygen, and Child Abuse Certification (must obtain certification within 90 days of hire … Student Employees I believe only have to have CPR/1st Aid training), and keep proper records and reports of all disciplinary actions, incident reports, and theft and report them to your Program Director immediately.

Member Service Staff: Employees will report to the Member Services Director and will assist with membership development and retention of existing memberships. Staff members should have the ability to work with people at all levels, have good organizational, people, business, and telephone skills, knowledge of computer programs and general office equipment, and must have CPR and 1st Aid Training. Member Services Staff members will need to understand and know the mission of the YMCA, be able to answer the telephone and greet members and potential members promptly, professionally, and politely, sell memberships, process, and distribute accurate membership/program information, process membership registration transactions accurately, give facility tours, assist member or potential members with any questions or problems, implement and maintain accurate membership database, records, and retention procedures, wear the required uniform, understand and abide by all YMCA personnel policies, general office duties and responsibilities as required by the Member Services Director or Program Director.

Admissions Office

Students will be responsible for the Representation of MVC to visitors & future students. Students must have an outgoing personality, reliability & demonstrated knowledge of MVC history and tradition. Students must be at least a college level sophomore status to apply. Duties will be but not limited to: Assisting the Admissions Office staff with a variety of duties to recruit a new class of Vikings each year. You may be asked to give a tour, show your residence hall room, help with general office tasks and more. It is important that you have a good grasp of what it means to be a Viking as you are the current face of MO Valley. Art Gallery Assistants

The Morris Gallery needs very self-directed and responsible student employees to assist in gallery operations including: opening and closing the gallery, manning the information desk, assisting visitors to the gallery, helping to mount exhibitions, promotion, and hosting art receptions. Experience in art and/or customer service helpful but not required. Students will need to be prompt, dependable, and able to work independently. Gallery hours to be divided among the student employees and work times to be arranged around class/sports schedules. Gallery work times are: Sunday 6-9 pm, Tuesday 12:30-4:30pm, Wednesday 12:30-4:30pm, Thursday 12:30-8pm, and Friday 12:30-4pm.

Business Office

Job duties include but are not limited to: organizing files, filing, shredding, alphabetizing, stuffing mailings, and other general office duties as assigned. Student will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement because they deal with student information that must be kept confidential. Students will work about 2 hrs per day during the normal office hours, 8:00-4:30 M-F. The schedule is flexible and will be set up around their class schedule. Appropriate dress and appearance is very important for this position. Jeans and t-shirts are fine but they need to be presentable.

Business/International

Business Division Faculty Office Assistant & International Advisor’s Assistant - Student employee will be responsible for: Meeting and greeting visitors, scheduling appointments, Answer telephone and take messages as needed, Making photocopies, scanning, faxing, Organization and maintenance of advising folders and international advising materials, Creation of Excel spreadsheets of varied nature (i.e. student lists, demographical information, major information), basic data analysis (i.e. counts by gender, major, etc.), and creation of written documents/brochures for regular and international advising and/or recruiting (as directed by the supervisor), Creation of informational flyers for campus use, Assisting with international student orientation activities, workshops, Freshmen Convocation, and with International Club activities, Grading objective exams (supervised), Providing support services to other business faculty as needed and as time and work schedule allows, and physical office organization.

Work Requirements - 2.5 GPA or higher desired, any major (can be freshman), B or higher in EN 130, EN 160, Knowledge of a second language is a plus, Cheerful disposition, Must be well organized and punctual, Good work ethic, Able to complete tasks accurately and timely, Clean and neat dress and appearance, and Must adhere to the MVC confidentiality policy and sign the confidentiality statement.

Development Office

Job duties include but are not limited to filing, copying, possible typing professional documents, answering the phone and taking messages, and running errands to different campus offices. There are some days that this person will help nearby offices with special projects if needed. These projects can also include the tailgates on Saturdays during the football season. Work Schedules will be set up around class times from 8am-4:30pm, which are The Development Office hours Monday-Friday. Appropriate dress and appearance is very important for this position. Jeans and t-shirts are fine but they need to be presentable.

Education Office

Student Employment employees in the Education Office have to be very trustworthy and dependable students because of the nature of material in the office. Employees will assist Dr. Wellborn along with any of the professors with needed tasks in the Education office. These tasks will be things like; making copies, picking up mail, running errands across campus, filing, and taking things to the Copy Center. Students will fill in a spreadsheet/time sheet with their class schedule and the working hours will be determined from hours they are not in class.

Library

The Library is open 83 hours a week and staff to different libraries on campus. They usually have 4 or 5 student employees working at all times. Here are the primary jobs assigned to the student employees:

  • · Shelf Maintenance: Each student has an assigned area to maintain (dusting and organizing)
  • · Book Processing
  • · Shelving new and returned materials
  • · Helping students find materials and instructing them on how to use the library resources (electronic databases and online catalog)
  • · Helping the library staff with special projects: Shifting materials, Library inventory, Books for Babies, Traveling exhibits, and Library special events
  • · Things to do for the library around campus: Pick-up mail from mail room, Post signs and notices for the library, Check the book drop for books and newspapers every morning, Pick-up copy jobs from the copy center
  • · Monthly Book Sales: Retrieving the books, Set up, Working the sale, Clean up
  • · Circulation Desk (both buildings): Checking-out materials, Monitoring the security gate, Getting reserve items, Maintaining the Coffee Bar
  • · Monitor the computer labs and Quiet Area: Helping students with computer problems, watching for vandalism, keeping the noise level down, Cleaning computer equipment, watching for students looking at explicit websites
  • · For students with office skills or training: Answering phones, Typing, Filing papers, Assisting with copiers, Handing out printing

Mass Communications Department

<

Photographers – Supervisor is David Roberts and you will work as a student photographer for the Delta student newspaper, yearbook, MVC website, and any other MVC or Mass Communication projects or events. You must be a Mass Communications major and have your own digital camera. You will need to be available for photo assignments during the day, in the evenings, and on the weekends to attend the MVC home events, ranging from sports events to music dress rehearsals to library programs. You will be expected to put in roughly 8-10 hours per week, which means at least five events per week will need to be covered.

General Mass Communications/Public Relations Assistant – Supervisor is Harry Carrell and the duties for this job will be filing, typing, running errands, making phone calls, preparation for classes, and assisting with other tasks of the Mass Communications & Public Relations departments. You will be responsible for helping with the MEBA Contest and the annual Marshall Chamber of Commerce Auction. I prefer my employees are Public Relations or Mass Communication majors. Students work about 8-10 hours per week. Schedules are set up around class times and the hours I am in my office during the day.

Nursing & Health Sciences Department

This is considered an on-campus position but the Nursing & Health Sciences Building is located at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall. To work here you will need to be able to provide your own transportation to and from work. Nursing majors have a hard time working in this department because of the classes and job duties involved. Student Activities

Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and sometimes Saturdays and Sundays.

Job Duties: Helping run all events put on by Student Activities, Being a member of the Student Activities Committee, Hanging posters or flyers, Any help needed in the Student Affairs Office, and Other duties as assigned. This job is a fun one! The Student Activities employees need to be outgoing and have the drive to get others involved with campus events. As well as have an open mind to help come up with new ideas for events. Your position is with Student Activities but employees are also part of the Student Affairs Office. You may at times need to help with anything in the Student Affairs Office. Sometime while working in the office, employees might have to deal with things that require a high level of confidentiality. Therefore, all employees will sign a Confidentiality Agreement before starting work. Any type of break in the agreement will result in termination from Student Activities. Employees are expected to work hard and have fun!

Job Duties: Customer service, Answering switchboard, Sorting and delivering mail, Organizing and filing paperwork, Minor cleaning, and Other duties as assigned.

Special Circumstances: Student Life employees answer directly to the Coordinator of Housing and Residential Life; however, they work for the entirety of the Student Affairs Office and therefore may receive direction from any member of the Student Affairs Office Staff. All Student Life employees are required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement prior to logging any hours. In the course of working in the Student Affairs Office they will encounter significant levels of confidential information and will be responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of documents and events within the office. Applicants must be trustworthy, reliable and hard working.

Theatre

Shop/Running Positions - Theatre Shop and Running positions will assist in the construction of theatre productions scenery, lighting, sound, and props. They will also help set up the theatre and run outside users in the theatre such as hypnotists, comedians, bands, show movies, and other Fine arts events. Other work may include maintenance to lighting and sound equipment, painting, and other creative work. Schedule subject to change but will be close to M-F 3:00-5:00pm, M-F 2:00-4:00pm (8-10 hours a week), Periodic evening work (reduce day hours to limit total hours). Must have afternoons free and willing to get dirty from time to time. Ability to work an evening from time to time is needed. No experience necessary, will train.

Costume Shop - Theatre Costume Shop positions will assist in the construction and maintenance of costumes for Fine Arts events. They will help construct all theatre costumes, choir and dance costumes, and assist with rentals. No sewing experience required, will train. Must have afternoons available. Schedule subject to change but will be close to - MWF 3:00 - 5:00 p.m., T 3:00 - 5:00 p.m., and some evening work available (about 8 hours a week).

Morris Experimental Theatre (MET) Assistance/Publicity/Theatre Recruitment - This position has two basic functions, 1) to help keep the MET Theatre organized and cleaned as well as 2) helping the directors of theatre productions with publicity, and 3) assist with the communication aspect of theatre recruitment. This position will regularly go through the MET Theatre and make sure all floors are swept; the chairs are in order, trash taken out, etc. This position will help with electronic communication with potential theatre students in an effort to continue recruitment contact. This position will also help with the creation, distribution, and communication about upcoming theatre productions. This position may be asked to assist with box office coordination as well. Scheduling is flexible and can fit around the student’s schedule (6-10 hours a week).

Burns Facility

These students will work different sporting events alongside the Burns Facility employees. Jobs will consist of working the gate, taking tickets, ushering, and setting up/cleaning for different events that take place within the Burns Gymnasium. This will provide majority of hours. However, there are some office duties that will be included with the job, such as, making copies, mailing, filming, and cleaning. These positions require about 10 hours per week. Depending on scheduled events which can vary and change determines when students will work.

Office Workers - Female must be available sometime during the day to do regular office work on the computer and available 8 weekends a year to help at the games.

Video Taping - Male or Female must be available in the Fall on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday's from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. and all weekends for videotaping of practice and games.

Men's Wrestling

Wrestling Team Laundry - List of duties student(s) will be expected to perform: Daily washing and drying of team laundry, maintaining control of individual's laundry to avoid theft, managing, cleaning and appropriate maintenance of laundry facilities. This assignment is seasonal and will not ahve any work to complete until official practices have started, generally in late September. At this time this position requires 6 days a week and between 15-20 hours of work weekly.

Office Assistants/Student Managers/Statisticians - List of duties student(s) will be expected to perform: Various secretarial duties related to the daily office functions, travel with the team, keep statistical records and assist in managing team, running the various computer related programs for the stats and office duties, filming and dubbing of individuals films, responsible for the management of the team uniforms and equipment, monitoring and delivery of Student Employment time sheets to the Student Employment Office, various mailings, constructing recruiting packages, and other related duties. This position will begin in the first week of the semester and will continue throughout the year. This student employee will work a minimum of 8-10 hours weekly and it is not unusual for a manager to get 20-40 hours weekly when in season.

Rodeo

This job is a maintenance/farm hand type position. You will report to the Head Rodeo Coach for daily work assignments which include but are not limited to: Feeding/watering livestock, mowing, weed eating, raking the alley ways in the barn, cleaning the clubhouse, cleaning the rodeo residence hall, building/fixing fence, cleaning stalls, working arenas, working livestock, picking up trash, emptying trash receptacles, plowing/scooping snow, painting, hauling hay. Must be a rodeo team member to apply for this position because of the time spend out at the rodeo facilities.

Women's Basketball

Manager - Two positions are available, one for Varsity and one for JV. Duties will be but not limited to: need to be present at all home games to video tape and then copy the game on to a DVD. The manager will also be at every team practice to help with practice set up, running the clock, and making sure team uniforms are washed and ready for following game. (Times are after school and are not set times.)

Offie help - Duties will be but not limited to: helping to enter recruiting information on the computer (Microsoft Excel), on recruiting days help to talk with and show the campus to recruits, help with grading tests, entering grades, filing, and cleaning the office. (Times are flexible and will work with class schedule.)

Game Table Help - 1st position: You will be responsible for announcing the starting line-up and to help with game stats for all home women's Varsity and JV games. Student must have a sharp, confident voice and a good understanding of the game of basketball.
2nd position: You will be responsible for running the game shot clock for both the Men's and Women's home games. Must understand the rules of basketball and be reliable to show up on time. (Evening hours)

The student employment position includes many duties: Helping with practice setup, washing practice equipment and game jerseys, setting up the field for a game, and putting the equipment up afterwards. There will also be some office work that can range from grading papers to printing copies.

John Gault (Math/Science/Graduate Dean)

Students do multiple tasks for me in the office and lab. They help with grading, recording attendance and scores, putting student papers in order, sending emails, filing, setting up physics and physical science labs, moving physics equipment, repairing physics equipment, entering data and questions in the CPS computer response system, and other associated tasks. I need them to have time available in the afternoons.

Peter Warnock (Archaeology/Anthropology)

Duties will include: Basic cleaning, sorting papers, filing, office work. Time will also be spent digitizing slides from a slide digitizer to computer (100’s of slides to be done). Located in Room 21, basement of the science building, times are open and will be scheduled around class schedule.

Valerie Wedel (Fine Arts)

Ceramics Studio Assistant: Student will assist in the everyday duties of the Ceramics Studio including: mixing clay, making glazes, cleaning, inventory, light repairs, setting up exhibits, and loading and unloading kilns. Experience in art is helpful but not required; experience in ceramics is a plus. Note: this job will often get you messy. Very flexible hours and will work around student’s schedule. Typically work 2 hours a day over 4 days.
