Coach Josh Miller, a native of Camarillo, Calif, enters his fourth season with the Viking softball program and third as head coach. The 2009 Vikings finished 34-23, winning the Heart of America Athletic Conference Series Championship and advancing to their first ever NAIA national tournament appearance. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association named Coach Miller and his staff as the NAIA Midwest Region Softball Coaching Staff of the Year after their 2009 finish.
In his first two seasons as head coach, he has produced eight NAIA scholar athletes, one 1st Team All-Midwest Region player, four 1st Team HAAC selections, and two 2nd Team HAAC selections. In 2008, the Vikings were honored by the National Fastpitch Coach’s Association for their hard work in the classroom earning a team GPA of 3.459, ranking them fourth in the nation.
Coach Miller attended Oxnard College where he played baseball for the Condors in 2000 and 2001 before transferring to Missouri Valley. Coach Miller was an all-American as a junior in 2002, and carried his Viking squad to a regional championship in 2003 with a game winning grand slam against Benedictine College. During the 2004 season he was an assistant with the MVC baseball team. He returned home in 2004 and helped re-organize the Southern California Blast Softball Organization, finishing the summer of 2006 as Triple Crown International Champions in Park City, Utah.
Coach Miller received his bachelor’s degree in recreation administration from MVC, and a master’s degree in business management from Lindenwood University. He currently resides in Marshall.
Daniel Allen
Assistant Coach
Assistant Coach Daniel Allen, a Perry, Okla. native enters his first season with the Viking softball program.
Coach Allen was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 1996 Major League Baseball draft. Coach Allen attended the University of Central Oklahoma in 1997 where he played baseball for the NCAA Division II National Runner-up Broncho’s before transferring to Missouri Valley College. Allen was a member of the 2001 MVC regional champion baseball team, earning all-American honors as an outfielder.Â
Coach Allen received his Bachelor of Science degree in business marketing from MVC and a master’s degree in business management from Lindenwood University.Â
