Coach Tom Fifer - Viking Athletic Director
Tom Fifer began his Missouri Valley tenure in 1990 when he took over as the head menís basketball coach and led the program for nine years. Fifer took his first team to the NAIA Division II National Tournament, a feat that had not been accomplished for 30 years. Fifer was appointed as athletic director of Missouri Valley College in 1997. Fifer held job titles as head menís basketball coach, instructor of physical education, and athletic director for four years before relinquishing the basketball program to concentrate on the needs of a 26-varsity sport, and 10-junior varsity sport athletic department. He has been the leading force in revamping the athletic budget. Under Fiferís direction, Missouri Valley has added menís volleyball, menís and womenís tennis, men's and women's lacrosse and is one of the pioneers in womenís wrestling. During his tenure, Fifer has seen three menís wrestling national championships (1996, 1997, & 2003), one womenís wrestling national championship (2001), two cheerleading National championships (2001, 2013), six football conference championships (1999, 2006, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014), three football national semi-finals appearances (2006, 2007 & 2012), three football NAIA #3 rankings (2006, 2007 & 2012), one baseball conference championship (2001), two men's soccer conference championships (2011, 2014) one men's cross country conference championship (2013), two men's lacrosse conference championships (2014, 2015),conference tournament championships in baseball (2002 & 2003), softball (2002 & 2009), men's volleyball (2006), womenís tennis (2009), men's soccer (2010) and men's basketball (2015). Fifer has also overseen two baseball national regional championships (2001 & 2003), the first ever softball, womenís tennis, volleyball, men's lacrosse, men's cross country and men's soccer national playoff appearances, a men's basketball National second round appearance (2015) and a reserve national championship finish (2010) and fourth place national finish (2011) by the men's rodeo team.
In May 2008, Fifer was named MVCís vice president of enrollment management and operations while still retaining his position as athletic director. Fifer will oversee all aspects of enrollment, plant maintenance, athletics, and will assist the chief financial officer in budget management. The Cairo, Mo., native enjoys hunting, fishing and spending time with his wife, Marsha, his daughters, Tonya, Tara, and Paige, and his grandchildren.
