Tom Fifer began his Missouri Valley tenure in 1990 when he took over as the head men’s basketball coach and led the program for nine years.  Fifer took his first team to the NAIA Division II National Tournament, a feat that had not been accomplished for 30 years. Fifer was appointed as athletic director of Missouri Valley College in 1997. Fifer held job titles as head men’s basketball coach, instructor of physical education, and athletic director for four years before relinquishing the basketball program to concentrate on the needs of a 23-varsity sport, and 10-junior varsity sport athletic department. He has been the leading force in revamping the athletic budget. Under Fifer’s direction, Missouri Valley has added men’s volleyball, men’s and women’s tennis, and is one of the pioneers in women’s wrestling. During his tenure, Fifer has seen three men’s wrestling national championships (1996, 1997, & 2003), one women’s wrestling national championship (2001), two football conference championships (1999 & 2006), two football national semi-finals appearances (2006 & 2007), two football NAIA #3 rankings (2006 & 2007), one baseball conference championship (2001), conference tournament championships in baseball (2002 & 2003), softball (2002 & 2009) and women’s tennis (2009), two baseball national regional championships (2001 & 2003), and the first ever softball & women’s tennis national playoff appearance.

In May 2008, Fifer was named MVC’s vice president of enrollment management and operations while still retaining his position as athletic director. Fifer will oversee all aspects of enrollment, plant maintenance, athletics, and will assist the chief financial officer in budget management. The Cairo, Mo., native enjoys hunting, fishing and spending time with his wife, Marsha, and daughters, Tonya, Tara, and Paige.
