Cross-Country and Track Coach John Pickens arrived at Missouri Valley by way of Kansas Wesleyan University.  While at KWU Coach Pickens coached the 1997 women's cross country team to the NAIA National Championship, and throughout his career he has coached numerous All-Americans and Academic All-Americans.  Along with his coaching duties Coach Pickens also teaches at Missouri Valley College in the Physical Education Department.

Coach Pickens is a native of Thomas, Oklahoma, and earned his Bachelor degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and his Masters degree from the University of Central Oklahoma.
