Chris Shotwell
Head Baseball Coach

Coach Shotwell is entering his second year as head coach of the Missouri Valley Baseball team.  Shotwell has spent the last four years as assistant coach for the Vikings, acting as co-head coach and head hitting coach for the last two seasons.  Before that time, he was the outfield coach and assistant hitting coach.  Shotwell finished a successful playing career as an outfielder at Missouri Valley College before moving across the chalk into the coach’s box. 

Coach Shotwell says, “I’m very excited to be continuing the tradition of baseball excellence here at Missouri Valley.  This school has such a great reputation both athletically and academically, and I’m very fortunate to a part of such a prominent organization.  I feel I have so much to give back to the place that has given me so much, and I can’t wait to begin working to keep up the standards of excellence that have been intact for so long here.”

 Before becoming a Viking, Shotwell played baseball at American River Community College in his hometown of Sacramento, Calif., under Head Coach Kevin Higgins.  While there, he helped his team to consecutive playoff appearances in the prestigious Big 7 Conference. 

 “I have learned so much having played in the programs that I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of.  The values that have been instilled in me will hopefully carry on to my players.  My philosophy is a simple one: hard work, dedication, and accountability, along with a positive attitude, and respect for the game can take any player to the top of his potential.  We won’t hesitate to put in the work necessary, on the field and in the classroom, and we’ll take pride in knowing that nobody has prepared themselves more,” said Coach Shotwell.

 Coach Shotwell is a resident of Marshall.  He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Missouri Valley in exercise science and completed his master’s degree in business administration from Lindenwood University.

Eric Norbut
Assistant Baseball Coach

 

 

Eric Norbut will be working as a graduate assistant with Missouri Valley College’s baseball program returning for his fourth year as a coach.  Eric made the trip from California to Missouri after competing at Rio Hondo College for two years. As a Roadrunner he was awarded 1st team all-conference and 2nd team all-conference in his two years. He played through the program at St. John Bosco, which has yielded Nomar Garciaparra and Evan Longoria . At Bosco he helped the Braves with two playoff runs, and was awarded 1st team all-conference as a junior. Eric is currently working toward his master’s degree and is looking forward to a successful year with the Viking squad.
