Missouri Valley College

MY MOVALEMAIL

Dean of Education

Dear Prospective Teacher:

The Missouri Valley College mission states that, among other things, MVC is an “opportunity school.”  This statement can be interpreted in a variety of ways.  In the Division of Education, Health, and Human Services, our interpretation is that students will have the “opportunity” to learn, to interact with a diverse student body and faculty, to gain cultural and social experiences, and to prepare for a career in their chosen profession. Our division is diverse in its offerings, but whatever your major, whether it be education and teaching, health professions, recreation, or human service management, the underlying focus is on service.  Our students and faculty understand the importance of helping others in a global community.

The Division of Education, Health, and Human Services is committed to providing educational and field experience opportunities designed to prepare students for successful careers.  Specifically, our goals are:

  1. To prepare students to become members of a responsible citizenry through liberal learning, critical thinking, and academic excellence.
  2. To promote a holistic, liberal arts perspective toward education and learning that develops students in relationship to other persons, other disciplines, other cultures, and to their religious/ethical systems and to self.
  3. To provide a baccalaureate education that prepares students for careers in education, health professions, recreation, and human service management.
  4. To instill the values of education and learning as a lifelong process of discovery, enlightenment, and reflection.
  5. To provide students with meaningful field experiences that will prepare them for their respective careers.
  6. To offer appropriate advising, counseling, and strategies that will assist students in meeting prerequisites for entry-level employment and/or entry into graduate or professional programs of study.
  7. To promote professionalism through involvement in student organizations and attendance at symposiums or conferences.

We are here to help you with your development throughout your college career.  As you progress throughout your education, you will find yourself growing in self-confidence and skills.  You will develop a quiet confidence that will allow you to help and serve others in the future. If at any time you feel that we can be of additional assistance, please feel free to contact our office at 831-4022.  Welcome to the Division of Education, Health, and Human Services, the first step toward your future success!

Sincerely,
