MVC Nursing Program

The MVC nursing program leading to a BSN degree, requires the student to complete one year of prerequisite courses and apply for the program in the spring semester of the pre-nursing year. Students who apply for this competitive program will be evaluated on GPA, recommendations, interviews, and a written essay and the top 20 candidates will be selected to matriculate into the program. The actual nursing program will begin in the fall of 2010. The following 3 years will consist of extensive coursework and clinical rotations in specific areas of nursing, along with the student completing the MVC core requirements. Students can expect to enroll in 17 - 18 hours per semester in order to complete the program in 4 years. However, those students who already have many of their core classes completed will have fewer credit hours per semester.

It is expected that most of the nursing classes will be held at the MVC nursing facility on the Fitzgibbon Hospital campus. Clinical rotations will occasionally require the student to travel within a 30 mile radius in order to ensure that there are adequate facilities to ensure the development of clinical skills.

Missouri Valley College and Fitzgibbon Hospital are partnering in this endeavor in order to meet the needs of the community and to prepare nurses for future employment. Our focus will be on rural health care, but students will receive training in all nursing subject areas, from prenatal to geriatrics.

Below you can find a listing of suggested classes to take during the first year (pre-nursing phase) of the program. Required classes for the nursing program are indicated by an asterisk (*)
