Art is What I Do: Artwork by K-12 Educators

Art Educators Show
Paiting by Mike Savage, Juror

The Morris Gallery of Contemporary Art on the campus of Missouri Valley College cordially invites all current K-12 Art Educators to submit artworks for the Art Is What I Do juried exhibition. This show will kick off the third season for the Morris Gallery.

All current teachers of art at the K-12 levels are eligible to apply. Original artwork in 2D & 3D forms will be considered, no work from kits, video or performance. Photography and prints must meet archival standards. Computer generated art, computer-altered or enhanced photographs must be identified and clearly labeled as such. Applications will be reviewed by the juror, Mike Savage, based on the digital images provided by the artist. Artworks accepted by the jury process will be chosen for exhibit.

Mike Savage grew up on Strawberry Hill in Kansas City, Kansas, earned his BFA from the University of Kansas, and has spent the past two decades at an easel capturing life’s ‘moments’ with spontaneous and bold brushstrokes.

Mike describes his work as contemporary and impressionistic, with a spontaneity that comes from letting the canvas serve as the palette. His love of color jumps from the canvas to create a look that brings feelings of happiness. It’s this color palette, he feels, that takes the ordinary visual to a level where he sees the world.

Mike is a resident of Westwood, a nearby community of Kansas City, where his studio commute is just steps from his home. His gallery, Sav•Art at 45th and State Line has been operating successfully for 7 years and carries his works and those of friends who share the same insight.

Submission guidelines
Artists may submit between 1-3 entries for consideration, in jpeg format (limit images to 1024 pixels on the longest side.) Limit 2 jpegs per artwork: 1 full view and 1 detail/alternate view. Submit images in proper viewing orientation. Title each jpeg file to correspond with the number on the entry form as such: yourlastname_entry1.jpg, yourlastname_entry2.jpg, etc. For multiple images of the same work, number the entries with “a” and “b” – for example: yourlastname_entry1a.jpg and yourlastname_entry1b.jpg.
