Charity-Mika Woodard

Charity-Mika Woodard

Charity-Mika Woodard received her MFA in Painting and Drawing from the New York Academy of Art, and her BFA from Pittsburg State University. She also proudly holds a K-12 Art teaching certification from Missouri. Ms. Woodard has had the privilege of working with many talented artists, including Eric Fischl, Vincent Desiderio, Wade Schuman, Jenny Saville, and Damian Loeb. She has shown in group exhibits in London, New York, and throughout Missouri. Ms. Woodard teaches all levels of drawing, painting, and printmaking, as well as business of art, senior portfolio, and all art education courses. She is an oil painter in the traditional academic figurative style. Her larger-than-life paintings revolve around the central theme of women and society.

Ms. Woodard has a passion for traveling and taking students to see great artwork. She has traveled throughout Central and South America researching folk art and studying native crafts. For the Missouri Consortium Study Abroad program, she created and taught Watercolor in London's Parks (2010) and Drawing in Paris (2014). She created and taught the class Ninja Turtles: Renaissance influences on Modern Culture (2012) for the Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy. Ms. Woodard created a class exclusively for Missouri Valley College, Art on Location, in which she takes art students to the great museums and galleries of New York City.

On the MVC campus, Ms. Woodard created the Art in Motion outdoor sculpture exhibit. This rotating sculpture exhibit brings four to five new sculptures to the MVC campus yearly. In addition to this, Ms. Woodard also created and serves as the Director of the Morris Gallery of Contemporary Art. The gallery began in 2011 and is made possible by a generous donation by Jon and Dawnna Morris. The Morris Gallery of Contemporary Art exhibits current works of art for the educational enhancement of students, faculty and the general public. The goal of the gallery is to expose mid-Missourians to high quality artwork from national artists in a variety of media.
