President, Bahler Communications · Alexandria, VA
Brent Bahler, a 1975 graduate of Missouri Valley College, is president of Bahler Communications, a boutique consultancy established in 1998 that serves political candidates, advocacy organizations, national trade associations and major corporations.
Early in his career Brent was a radio news director and newspaper editor who covered candidates and issues. He then entered the world of politics, serving as press secretary, communications director or campaign director in numerous Republican campaigns for the U.S. House, the U.S. Senate and Governor.
Brent has held senior communications positions on Capitol Hill, including serving as press secretary to U.S. Senator Bob Dole. During the Reagan-Bush administrations, he served as public affairs director at two major federal agencies. Brent also has been executive director of the Oregon Republican Party, and later communications director for a national advocacy organization.
In 1994 his media savvy was cited by Washington Post reporters David Broder and Haynes Johnson in their book, “The System,” which recounted the battle over President Clinton’s government-run health care plan and Brent’s role in its defeat.
Brent’s hands-on skills include design, coordination and analysis of opinion research, strategy and message development, concept creation and copy writing, advertising direction and production, media relations and crisis communications. His services and products have helped influence politics and policymaking in more than half the states of the country.
Over the years, Brent has lectured on policy and political communications at campaign seminars and workshops sponsored by the Republican National Committee, the National Republican Congressional Committee, American University, George Washington University, the Conservative Political Action Committee and the Leadership Institute.
A member of the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC), Brent was first listed in Who’s Who in American Politics since 1983.
