Photo neededJanie D. Ross received her MFA in Dance from Arizona State University (ASU) and her BFA in Related Arts/Dance from Kutztown University. She has also trained in Lubbock, TX; Reading, PA; New York City; and Philadelphia. Janie has had the privilage of working with many choreographers, including Nora Chipaumire, Columbine Macher, and Carley Conder. She has also performed for Kutztown University’s Performing Dance Portmanteau (PDP), ASU’s Dance Arizona Repertory Theater (DART), and Radio Healer of Phoenix, AZ. In addition to being showcased by PDP, DART, and Radio Healer, Janie’s choreography has also been performed by the Eastern Pennsylvania Ballet Theater, Maranatha Productions, Berks County Outstanding Young Woman Program, and various dance teams.

Janie’s previous research has included studying the impact of purposeful movement and dance on high school and university students with visual impairment, a study that she presented at the Council for Exceptional Children Conference in 2001 and 2002. She also investigated the importance of core development for dance technicians and presented this research at the National Dance Education Organization’s annual conference in 2006. As a result of her academic work and research, Janie has been the recipient of numerous awards and grants.

Janie has worked with various Boys and Girls clubs and has volunteered at the International Rescue Committee (IRC), where she facilitated movement sessions for child refugees from Liberia. She also spent the summer of 2007 voluteering and sharing her dance talents with the community of Katutura, Namibia. Her experiences working with these different groups has strengthened her desire to use dance as a means of exploring social, political and humanitairan issues.

Janie’s teaching/research interests include technique, compostition, improvisation and ethic dance forms.
